I have always thought Tippy was a very smart dog, but today she impressed even me.

I am taking a trip to Florida to visit family this week.  I wish I could take Tippy with me, but I’m staying with my step-daughter who has a cat and 2 rabbits.  Tippy hates cats.  She loves rabbits…..eating them every chance she gets.  o_O   I don’t think it would end well.

Last night, I told Tippy, “You are going to get to go to Addie’s tomorrow!”  I did not do anything special that would indicate there was something up.  I didn’t get her stuff together or pack anything.  I did laundry and got some food/snacks together, but none of that is out of the ordinary.  When I got up this morning, I let her out to potty, per usual.  She didn’t want to come back in for breakfast, which is not really out of the ordinary either.  It was 43°F, which is a perfect temperature for her to sit on the porch and “chill” for a while.  I thought nothing of it until I noticed she wasn’t on the porch anymore.

I went out to find her.  I didn’t have to go far because she was standing with her front paws on the step and her nose in the door.   I asked if she wanted in.  No.  Just waiting to leave!!!  I didn’t get a picture of that, but did get a picture of her about 30 minutes later, still waiting.  She had to have understood what I told her last night, and remembered it, and knew what “tomorrow” meant.  I have no other explanation.  Very impressive!

I’m still waiting mom. When are we leaving to go to Addie’s? You said I was going today!

I got her food and treats together and we took off.  She was so happy to go.  She loves to just ride, but especially loves going to Addie’s.

Ok. Let’s get on with it. Addie is waiting for me!

I would have a really hard time leaving Tippy with anyone else.  Addie really loves her and Tippy loves playing with all of the other dogs that Addie has in her care – her own, those she boards, and those that are there only for the day.

Tippy, we’re so glad you are here!

She quickly made herself right at home.

See you later mom. Have fun. I know I will.

I’m really lucky to have somewhere I feel so comfortable leaving Tippy when I am away.  She would not do well in a kennel or traditional boarding situation.  Where do you leave your dogs when you can’t take them with you?

  1. That last photograph is so beautiful Vicky, Tippy looks so settled and happy! It’s a great piece of mind when you know she’ll have a lot of fun and be well looked after. We never leave our dogs and only visit friends or go on holidays where the dogs can come with us. Enjoy your time in Florida and please give Tippy a big pat from us all on your return 🤗🐾💖🐾 xxx

    1. It’s great that you can take your dogs everywhere you go! Tippy really does enjoy being at Addies, so I don’t worry about leaving her there at all. I will give her extra pats for you when I see her tomorrow. Thanks!

  2. Ha! This is so cute–Tippy knew she was going somewhere! I think I was very lucky that when I had dogs there was a great boarding facility close to home. They loved Daisy and Muffin, so my girls were spoiled. Tippy looks like she is living the life! That has to be such a comfort for you.

  3. I think Tippy is a very clever girl – she knows when she is going out and she knew where she was going. The dogs I look after from time to time would not do so good in a boarding situation – they are generally older dogs. When older friends are ill – as sometimes happens – all I can do to help is to look after and take care of their dogs whilst they are in hospital for treatment or recovering. At the moment I have Max – the Pug – for a couple of weeks.

    1. Aww. You are so sweet to take care of your elderly friends dogs. I know they really appreciate that and it lets them concentrate on getting better and not worry about what they are going to do with their beloved pet.

  4. It was definitely the ‘Addie’ word plus ‘go’ and smart girl she is, she figured it out – impressive!
Did you have a good trip or did you miss her terribly?
We used to hire a sitter to come twice a day, but ever since we had a special needs dog who was fearful of everyone and everything, we had to curtail travel or go without a family member, who would take care of the animals. She has since passed, but now the new cat is our Achilles heel. We seem to attract special needs animals!

    1. I did have a great trip. My step-daughter has a cat I can love on when I miss Tippy. Shhhhh. Don’t tell Tippy though. She hates cats. LOL It’s nice that you take on the special needs animals. A lot of people don’t have the patience for it. I salute you for doing that.

  5. Having a house your dog loves to go to is a godsend. Leaving the pets for trips is becoming a big issue for me. The person who I usually leave my dog with has moved and now I’m looking into hiring people to come in because I don’t think my dog will do well in a kennel at his age.

    1. Yes. I’m lucky. Tippy would not fare well in a kennel setting, I’m afraid. I hope you are able to find someone who can come and take care of your dog. It’s hard when you can’t take them with you.
